The Thursday Night Chronicles Hello fellow Magi. I would like to tell you about a real happening here in Phoenix Arizona. It involves mystery, intrigue, magic, and fun. It happens every Thursday night for approximately two hours and the cost is absolutely outrageous, it’s free. It does require a love for magic, mentalism and /or entertainment. It also requires that you drive to the place of fun.
I hope you have guessed by now. It’s the Amazing Magic Shoppe’s Magic Happy Hours. Ok, what’s so special about The Thursday Night Magic Hours that you should see? Well, I have been participating for almost a year now or since the beginning and I have met so many new magicians and enthusiasts of magic. There are those who want to have their show critiqued, those who want to watch or meet new people, but the best thing is there is those will impart their knowledge to you. It is not everyday you can learn a new pass, coin vanish, or four ace trick from some of the best. I have had the pleasure of meeting Duane Jones and his Grandson, Gary Billings, Gary Taylor, Tony Lee, Shawn Evans, Steve Sharp, Mister “E”, Brian Tudor, and many more. Each person has been willing to teach a new trick or help you perfect an old one. They have been just great but most of all I can personally call them friends. There is a private stage that you may try your new material on or you can ask the guys to watch and give advise on your performance. The truly nice aspect of this gathering is its diversity. There are guys who specialize in cards, coins, rope, parlor, stage, close-up and of course mental magic. Any one of the guys would be happy to show you something or even how to do an effect. There are also guys who build and/or repair magic props. They will help you with ideas or if you have a project a little over your head, they will give you advise on how to accomplish it. The third Thursday of the month is theme night. The Shoppe picks a theme and you are encouraged to demonstrate your handling of it or just watch others perform. Last night February 24, 2005, was cups and ball night. There were many who came and performed. I was blown away at one particular performer. He did some of the Gazzo routine and his twist on the effect. Wow, Thomas of Amityville Magic was totally awesome. There were others who performed and did well also. March 18th will be the next theme night and it is ROPE. I hope by now, all of you reading this will get the urge to try a night at the Magician’s Happy Hour for yourself. You will not be disappointed. The friends you make there will last you a lifetime. Luigi Luigi & Co.
